Despite criticism, Celtics star Jayson Tatum praises Boston fans.
The Boston Celtics are off to a strong start this season, leading the Eastern Conference more than halfway through the NBA season. Jayson Tatum has the Celtics 20-1 at TD Garden, with their only loss coming earlier this week to the Denver Nuggets.
Several NBA players have blasted Boston fans in recent seasons. Jaylen Brown stated that a portion of the fan base was “extremely toxic.” Former Celtics guard Kyrie Irving said he received numerous comments during a playoff game in 2022. LeBron James even said that Boston supporters were “racist as f.”
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Tatum reflected on the positives and expressed regret that the club did not win that one game against the Nuggets.
“I’ve been very fortunate, seven years now, to be in Boston and they truly do have the best fans in the league,” he went on to say. “They support us every night. I just want to repay them with terrific basketball. They give us so much enthusiasm at every game. You do not want to let them down in that way.
“I’m sick that we lost the last game. I was wanting to go unbeaten at home. However, 20-1 is not a bad start. It’s been nice to see.”
Tatum told Fox News Digital that the team was one
“We obviously have some new additions to our team with KP and Jrue Holiday. “Those guys have been great all season and bring a new dynamic to our team,” Tatum said. “It’s not that the other teams haven’t been talented, but I think this is probably the most talented team I’ve been on and the most understanding in, like, we’re all sacrificing maybe our numbers a little bit.”
Tatum described the team’s willingness to play as being different from previous years.
“Nobody’s necessarily going to have a career year points per game-wise because we’re all sharing the wealth,” he said. “Everyone can put the ball on the floor, shoot, attack, and create plays for others. But we’re enjoying one other’s achievements and having a lot of fun in the process.”
