The Whites are reducing the distance on Leicester, but it appears that their goal is not to catch up with the Foxes.

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has admitted that catching Leicester this season was never his team’s ambition, according to BBC Radio Leeds.

The Whites have been excellent for much of the season, winning every single league game in 2024.

However, they had a poor start to the season, winning only one of their first five Championship matches in 2023/24.

This was a setback in their desire to return to the Premier League at their first attempt, and it even landed them in the bottom half of the standings for a short while.

They are presently in second position, buoyed by Southampton’s 2-1 setback to Hull City in midweek.

The Saints’ setback has kept Leeds in second place, with only Leicester to catch now.

The Foxes and Whites will face off tomorrow at the King Power Stadium in what might be a pivotal encounter for both teams.

However, it may be less significant for Leicester, who have been outstanding for all of the season and still lead Farke’s team and Ipswich Town, who are in third place.

Farke on Leicester City: “They still have everything in their hands”

Even though maintaining their top-two status will be critical, Leeds will undoubtedly want to look ahead rather than behind them at this point.

Despite recently reducing the points gap on Enzo Maresca’s side, the Whites’ manager isn’t overly concerned about catching up.

He stated, “I was never focused about the points difference with Leicester. Even now, I’m not very bothered.

“They still hold everything in their hands. I enjoy our consistency and performance levels.

“Even if we win this game, [Leicester] will definitely finish in the top two.”

Leeds United should keep looking higher.

Farke’s position is understandable.

Becoming champions should not be a key aim this season, and Leeds fans may become discouraged if they focus too much on Leicester and the Foxes continue to win.

However, with the Tractor Boys and the Saints hot on their heels, the Whites must keep looking up since gazing behind them may not be beneficial.

They are both dangers, with the Tractor Boys demonstrating incredible consistency earlier in the season and the Saints boasting an incredibly talented and strong side that went on a fantastic unbeaten run earlier this season.

Focusing too much on Ipswich and Southampton may have an impact on their performances due to anxiety, so they should focus on themselves if they do not intend to make it their mission to catch Leicester.

Concentrating solely on themselves may potentially benefit them.
