The Las Vegas Raiders continue to assemble their coaching staff for 2024, which will not include former quarterbacks coach and interim offensive coordinator Bo Hardegree. The 39-year-old and the Raiders parted ways at the end of the season, capping Hardegree’s two-year tenure with the team.
However, he did not survive long on the free agent market, joining with a team on Thursday. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Hardegree will join the Tennessee Titans as their quarterbacks coach under bench manager Brian Callahan.
Callahan took over as Tennessee’s head coach late last month, succeeding Mike Vrabel. Callahan directed offensive plays for the Cincinnati Bengals from 2019 to 2023, collaborating with standout quarterback Joe Burrow.
Bo Hardegree: Leaving Las Vegas After Two Seasons
Bo Hardegree joined the Las Vegas Raiders in 2022, serving as quarterbacks coach under head coach Josh McDaniels. The Raiders ended 6-11, with Derek Carr passing for 3,522 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions. The Raiders have switched from Carr to former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo for the 2023 season. Garoppolo battled injuries, throwing for 1,205 yards, seven touchdowns, and nine interceptions in seven games.
Following their 26-14 loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 8, Las Vegas dismissed McDaniels, offensive coordinator Mick Lomardi, and general manager Dave Ziegler. Antonio Pierce, the Raiders’ linebackers coach, was promoted to head coach, while Bo Hardegree was appointed offensive coordinator. The AFC West club went 5-4 with Pierce and Hardegree, including a 63-21 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. During that stretch, the Raiders surpassed 330 offensive yards five times, a feat they had only accomplished twice in the first eight weeks of the season. Under Hardegree, the Raiders scored an average of 23 points each game.
Las Vegas Raiders: Eyeing Offensive Improvements
Last season, the Raiders averaged 19.5 points per game, the NFL’s 23rd lowest mark. Aidan O’Connell, Las Vegas’ rookie quarterback, is presently the primary signal-caller. Last year, he threw for 2,218 yards, 12 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He completed 62% of his passes.
Las Vegas has the thirteenth pick in the upcoming draft. In his latest mock draft, NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah predicts the team will select Penn State Nittany Lions offensive tackle Olumuyiwa Fashanu.
