Dallas Cowboys may allow star running back to test free agency and potentially find a new home.

The Dallas Cowboys may let their star running back, Tony Pollard, test free agency next month and could find a new home.

The Dallas Cowboys may allow star running back Tony Pollard to test free agency next month. Dallas already faces a difficult scenario as they attempt to extend Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb. Dallas will most likely have to make some sacrifices to keep some of its studs for next season. However, Pollard’s future as a running back appears to be dubious, and he could be transferred to another team.

One article made a bold forecast that will significantly change things up in Dallas. It stated that the Cowboys would let Pollard depart in free agency and move up in the third round to acquire a new running back. This could be a bold forecast, but the Cowboys have more alternatives than that.

They might enter free agency and sign a back for a one-year contract to give them time to locate a legitimate franchise player.

It will be difficult to replace Pollard, despite his modest productivity this season. Pollard did reach 1,000 yards for the second consecutive season. However, in four of their five losses this season, they failed to gain more than 100 yards rushing. Prescott had little to no time in the pocket and was constantly in red zone situations.

The Cowboys ranked 15th in rushing yards per game (113.5). All of this suggests that Dallas is unlikely to spend a lot of money on Pollard. He’ll most likely get another contract with a different team as a potential backup for more money. It seems logical that the Cowboys move on to acquire a running back that fits Prescott’s playing style.

In 2023, the Cowboys released one of their most promising players, who had fallen behind owing to injury. This could be the same situation as with Pollard, who was coming off an injury in 2022, which could explain his sluggish production. He had big expectations entering into this season, but they all went out the window. However, it is possible that he is not supposed to be a starter just yet.

In the best-case scenario, he would likely return as the No. 2 running back. He could have that opportunity with a new squad, as he is sure to be picked up quickly.
It seems challenging for Pollard this season as the lead back, receiving the most of the touches. Mike McCarthy tried to shake things up by bringing in Rico Dowdle, but it didn’t work out.

The best thing the Cowboys could do is try to re-establish Pollard as No. 2, but it’s likely too late. Dallas is looking to bring in the big personalities who helped the team succeed last season. The Cowboys may want to get a legitimate run-blocker to aid Prescott and the offensive line. There will be many names available in free agency.
