The Green Bay Packers might have just done it again. For the third time in a row, the Packers appear to have found their franchise quarterback. Jordan Love concluded the 2023 regular season with 4,159 passing yards, 32 touchdown passes, and 11 interceptions. A great start to a career.
The Packers might now recruit a veteran to assist Love get to the next level.
The Green Bay Packers Could Add A Huge Piece To Offense For Jordan Love.
Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report explained how this could occur:
Broncos Receive: 2024 second-round selection (58th overall)
Packers get OT Garett Bolles.
Finally, targeting Garett Bolles would provide Love with stronger protection in the future. He played more than 1,000 snaps last season and only allowed three sacks, earning a 75.9 grade from PFF.
The 31-year-old was also not hesitant about expressing his dissatisfaction with another losing season in Denver. He’s a clear trade candidate for a Broncos team with a tight cap situation. They are set to release Russell Wilson, making cap space even more valuable.
The Broncos are currently $25.7 million above the cap, and moving Bolles would save approximately $16 million.
The Packers rarely trade picks for players, but they have five in the top 100 and 11 overall in this year’s draft. If there is ever a time to utilize one of those picks on someone who has the potential to be a veteran difference-maker, it is now.
Tackles are rarely traded, so determining a fair price is difficult, but Denver should use the opportunity to get another Day 2 pick after trading for Sean Payton last offseason.
Would the Packers trade valuable draft capital for a veteran?
Brian Gutekunst has stated that he is open to the possibility of spending draft picks to acquire a veteran this offseason.
However, acquiring a seasoned tackle when the Packers already have David Bakhtiari doesn’t make much sense. It might be easier to restructure Bakhtiari’s contract and use that draft selection to continue building for the future.
Bakhtiari demonstrated in Week 1 of the 2023 season that he is still very good at what he does when healthy. If the Packers can get him healthy and the finances work out, we could see #69 back on the field for Green Bay.
