Green Bay Packers legend Brett Favre’s legal case takes a surprising $730,000 twist.

Brett Favre’s name seems to make headlines these days for negative reasons. This time, Mississippi wants the former Green Bay Packers star quarterback to return more than $700,000 in federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds that Favre allegedly received.

Per Emily Wagster Pettus of the Associated Press:

Mississippi’s state auditor filed court papers on Monday, renewing his call for Brett Favre to return the state for welfare funds that he claims were fraudulently spent on projects favored by the retired NFL quarterback.

Auditor Shad White’s demand for over $730,000 from Favre is the latest twist in a long-running legal struggle over funds intended to help some of the poorest individuals in one of the poorest states in the country.

Brett Favre, Green Bay Packers icon, gets a new twist in his legal saga.

Packers' full embrace awaits Favre at overdue ceremony

White stated that the sum they are requesting from Favre is the interest on the $1.1 million that the Green Bay Packers icon got. Favre has already repaid the $1.1 million through two separate payments in 2020 and 2021.

Favre is accused of accepting $1.1 million in exchange for speaking fees at events where he did not appear. Another claim is that Favre received $5 million in TANF funds to build a volleyball facility at South Mississippi, where his daughter played.
