Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs turns heads with cryptic comments on his future in Buffalo.
One year after a turbulent offseason, Buffalo Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs is once again raising questions about his future with the team.
Diggs came out for the first time since the team’s playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, speaking with the NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe during this week’s Pro Bowl Games. Though Diggs is under contract until the 2027 season, he would not say for definite what his future holds.
“I feel like I take it day by day,” he told me. “Obviously, there are many changes and events taking place. I can’t really put the cart before the horse, you know what I mean? But I have a tremendous offseason ahead of me to put in a lot of effort and build around what we have and are doing.
“I can’t tell you what the future holds, but I’m still being me.”
When asked if he planned to continue with the Bills, Diggs gave another enigmatic response.
“I’m ready to go no matter which way it goes,” Diggs stated in a statement.
Bills Move Forward With Top Receiver.
Though Diggs may not commit to a future with Buffalo, sources believe the organization has little choice. As Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports pointed out, Diggs has a $27.8 million cap charge for the upcoming season, and the financially-strapped Bills would be unable to move on even if they wanted to.
“That said, his contract does become more maneuverable after next season with his dead cap number decreasing in each of the next three campaigns,” Sullivan noted in a letter.
The Bills have maintained a public commitment to Diggs. In his season-ending news conference, general manager Brandon Beane stated that Diggs will return as the team’s top receiver next season, despite a late-season dropoff and a costly drop in the divisional-round loss to the Chiefs.
“Stef is a number-one receiver. Beane told ESPN, “I firmly believe that and will not waver from that.” “… Listen, we have to keep putting weapons out there to prevent teams from bracketing him or, you know, shutting him down in various ways to remove him. They know you will want him. Stef can still play; I’m sure he would love to have that deep ball back, and he’d be the first to tell you. He is really competitive, and he intends to work tirelessly this offseason. I understand there are numerous reasons or issues about this or his output, but I still see Stef as a No. 1 receiver.
“As I previously stated, that is one of the plays I would like to see again. I count; if I touch it, I drop it. Diggs told Wolfe, “If I can get one hand or a finger on it, I count it.” “Just this season, rolling with the punches, first eight games and last eight games, or nine games, or ten games, however you slice it, it was a different image. And it’s something I had to adjust to as a teammate: simply rolling with the punches, being the greatest teammate and player you can be, and continuing to grow from it.
