The transfer of an Inter Milan midfielder to Leicester City could fall through.

The transfer of midfielder Stefano Sensi from Inter Milan to Leicester City may not happen before the end of the transfer window after all.

This according to Italian news outlet Gazzetta.it, who report that the 28-year-old may end up back in training with the Nerazzurri tomorrow.

In recent days, it has looked all but inevitable that Sensi would be wearing the Leicester shirt.

The Foxes have been in negotiations with Inter for the former Sassuolo midfielder’s transfer for much of the month of January.

And by all accounts, the two clubs have come to an agreement on the terms of a deal.

Sensi would join Leicester on an initial paid loan deal worth €500,000.

Why Stefano Sensi is still waiting to complete Leicester City move

The Foxes would sign the 28-year-old on a permanent basis for a €2 million price.

Sensi was part of Inter’s team that traveled to Tuscany to face Fiorentina on Sunday.

Part of the rationale for this was that, with other midfielders on the squad, it was critical to have another player in the position, even if only to “make up the numbers.”

However, Sensi’s move to Fiorentina was expected to be completed shortly thereafter.

However, things are no longer as evident.

With only a few days remaining in the January transfer window, time is running out. Sensi’s transfer to Leicester has yet to be approved.

According to the Gazzetta, Leicester has yet to return all signed documents confirming the Italian international’s transfer to Inter.

That would clearly be an essential step. Without that, Sensi will be unable to fly to England to complete his transfer to Leicester.

Should the documents arrive on schedule, Sensi will travel to the East Midlands. The 28-year-old will have his medicals and then sign his contract.

However, if not, Sensi will join the rest of the Inter squad for training tomorrow.

Furthermore, the timeline may cause the agreement to fall through.

In such event, Sensi would continue with the Nerazzurri for the final five months of his contract.

Sensi’s future in the coming months will have little bearing on Inter’s intentions, either way.
