Derrick Henry issued a farewell address to Tennessee Titans supporters after the season’s final game, fully intending to enter free agency and join a different team the next season.

Brian Callahan, the Titans’ next coach, might have other ideas.

Callahan told 102.5 The Game on Friday morning that he was still hopeful Henry would return.

“I believe a player like Derrick Henry can fit into any offense. “He’s been a phenomenal player, and he’s been the face of the franchise here for a long time,” Callahan said. “When you think of the Tennessee Titans, you think of Derrick Henry.” He has earned that. If he is willing to make a reasonable return for us, I will never turn down a good player. I know he’s been a great leader in this building as well, which carries a lot of weight. There are methods to use each player. There is no offensive system that would say, ‘I don’t want Derrick Henry here.’

Derrick Henry probably won’t earn the same contract as his previous one.

Henry just completed the final year of a four-year, $50 million contract with the Titans. Because he is 30, he is unlikely to receive such a deal from any other organization.

When Callahan says they want a contract that “fits for us,” he is implying that Henry will not receive that type of money again. However, he did hint that Henry may stay in Tennessee.

Henry recently told the Bussin’ With the Boys podcast that he wants to play somewhere where he has the best chance of winning a Super Bowl.
