Daniel Farke identifies Leeds United’s transfer priority but issues January warning.

Leeds United will target a defender on the last day of the January transfer window as they attempt to enhance their options at the back

Leeds host Bristol City in the Championship on Friday night, and the club is yet to make any new signings in the January transfer window. Luke Ayling, Djed Spence, and Leo Hjelde all left this month, leaving the Whites weak in the back.

However, while manager Daniel Farke wants to add to his team before Thursday night’s deadline, he will only do so if a ‘perfect match’ is available.

When asked about transfer objectives, Farke commented, “We had some injury concerns during this window, but they have subsided significantly.” “We might use more defensive additions, but the January transfer window is tricky, making it impossible to upgrade our roster.

“We don’t want to simply bring statistics in. If someone comes in, we want the whole package: someone who improves us while remaining affordable. In January, this package is difficult to locate. If not, we’ll stick with what we’ve got.

Farke was asked about his relationship with Everton defender Ben Godfrey, whom he worked with while at Norwich City. However, the Leeds manager declined to discuss players under contract elsewhere.

“I never comment on any names, I am too respectful,” he went on to say. “I wouldn’t want other clubs to make comments about our players. We only talk about players when business is completed.”

Leeds United travel to Bristol City on Friday night knowing that a win will place them second in the table ahead of the weekend’s fixtures. Leeds would have played two more games than Southampton, who visit to Rotherham United on Saturday, while Ipswich Town will face Preston North End.
