The January transfer deadline is quickly approaching, and Leeds United are still looking to strengthen their squad. Leeds have seen players go this month, and it appears that more will leave before the end of the transfer window, but they have yet to sign anyone.

With that in mind, here are some of the transfer headlines from this evening.

Leeds come back for Godfrey.

Leeds United make Ben Godfrey 'decision' after initial setback amid transfer clause claim

Leeds United have reportedly opted to make a second bid for Everton defender Ben Godfrey after their previous attempt was rejected. The Whites are looking to strengthen their backline before Thursday’s transfer deadline, and Godfrey is one player they are reportedly making a strong late push for.

According to Football Insider, Leeds has already had one loan offer rejected, but the Whites intend to persevere and try again to sign the England international for the rest of the season. Everton is said to be eager to part ways with the defender this month due to his lack of game time, but no agreement has been struck as of yet.

The centre-back, who previously played for Norwich City under Daniel Farke, has made only two league appearances for the Toffees this season and will be looking for more minutes in some form over the second half of the season.

Leo Hjelde is expected to join Sunderland this week, with the Black Cats setting up a permanent deal for the Norway U21 international. Hjelde is likely to cost Michael Beale’s side £2 million, but according to Teamtalk, the Whites will not receive the full amount due to a sell-on clause.

According to the article, Celtic would receive 15% of the price through a condition included in the deal that brought Hjelde from Scotland to Elland Road in 2021. Hjelde has made only three league appearances for the Whites, the most recent coming on the season’s opening day against Cardiff City.
