Tennessee football recruiting: No. 2 2025 quarterback. George MacIntyre chooses Vols

Tennessee has landed a huge in-state recruiting commitment in the 2025 class, as quarterback George MacIntyre pledged to the Volunteers on Monday during a ceremony at Brentwood Academy outside Nashville.

MacIntyre is the No. 16 overall prospect and the No. 3 quarterback in the 2025 college football recruiting class, according to the four major national recruiting agencies’ consensus rankings. All rate him as a four-star prospect.

The quarterback chose Tennessee over other SEC contenders Alabama and LSU, and after the latter signed Bryce Underwood, the Vols and Crimson Tide appeared to be competing for MacIntyre, who visited both schools numerous times.

The 6-foot-6 quarterback is a “tall signal caller with strong projectable tools as a passer and playmaker,” according to On3 Sports.

MacIntyre boasts a “tight, compact throwing motion with few moving parts.” The release is quite swift. Displays good arm strength and the ability to flick passes out to the boundary and downfield.”

Macintyre’s Statistics
Over two seasons at Brentwood, the quarterback threw for 5,570 yards and 44 touchdowns in the air, with 16 interceptions.

VOLS’ TALENTED QB ROOM.

Tennessee has made significant quarterback acquisitions recently, becoming the second recruit at the position ranked in the top three nationally in the last several cycles.

Nico Iamaleava, the second-ranked quarterback and overall prospect, signed with the Volunteers in 2023, while UT also recruited four-star signal caller Jake Merklinger, a top-15 prospect at the position after throwing 38 touchdowns as a senior.

Iamaleava is the overwhelming favorite to start for Tennessee in 2024, but the rest of the depth chart remains an open question, with Merklinger and MacIntyre in the mix.
