The Celtics guard was listed as a reserve for the NBA All-Star game by Reggie Miller only last week. Fellow Celtics player Jaylen Brown joined White on the list, and Jayson Tatum, a forward, had already been selected as a starter earlier in the evening.

Miller’s choice to include White would seem to suggest that he thinks superstar players on bad teams shouldn’t be considered for the All-Star squad, preferring role players on great teams. As one of the best role players in the NBA, White is also one of the Celtics’ greatest secrets, as George pointed out.

Given that big guys Luke Kornet and Kristaps Porzingis are now sidelined with injury for the Celtics, White could need to step up this week. Against the Miami Heat on Thursday, Porzingis sprained his ankle.

When the Pelicans visit, fellow big guys Al Horford and Luke Kornet might also sit. Due to left hamstring strain, which caused him to leave the Clippers game early, Kornet is categorized as doubtful. Horford, on the other hand, will either sit against the Pelicans or on Tuesday when the Celtics play the Indiana Pacers because he is not allowed to play in both legs of a back-to-back.
