Leeds United are set to pay £2 million for Leo Hjelde from Sunderland this week, as the Norwegian moves to the Stadium of Light on a permanent basis.

Leeds have limited time left to correct their problems at the moment, with the back four now looking worryingly short

However, outgoings appear to be continuing, despite Daniel Farke’s current lack of options at both full-back and centre-back.
Leo Hjelde joins Sunderland permanently.

Leo Hjelde is the latest defender to leave Elland Road, joining Sunderland in a deal completed on Monday morning.
Mike McGrath first claimed that a fee had been negotiated between the two Championship sides, and that he would now undergo a medical at the Stadium of Light before leaving.

Sky Sports’ Keith Downie said that the player has also agreed terms and is going to the North East for a physical.

Fee revealed for Hjelde’s move to Sunderland.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Black Cats will pay a £2 million price to bring the player in this week.
Leeds paid “£1million-plus” for the Norwegian from Celtic in the summer of 2021, when he joined Leeds’ U21 squad.

The huge updated Stuart Dallas quiz: Can Leeds United fans get 20/20?

Given that Hjelde came to Leeds with such potential and high hopes, it’s concerning that we’re only getting thus much.

He is undeniably skilled enough to play in the Championship, and Sunderland is an excellent venue for him to develop his game.

If the agreement also includes a sell-on fee, it could be a better deal than Leeds will credit it for.
