The Buffalo Bills must re-sign five free agents in 2024.
The Buffalo Bills have 21 pending free agents and will not have much salary cap space to spend this offseason. The squad will have to choose and choose who to keep from this group of players. I recently wrote an article regarding the roster of free agents, and the Bills are unlikely to bring them all back, with many being replaced by rookies in the April draft.
But who within the group is the most important? Who will assist this club in 2024 in reaching its ultimate aim of winning the Super Bowl? The Bills need defensive depth, but they will also want to bring back starters. Maybe they’ll get lucky and hit a home run with a few draft picks, but I’d rather not rely completely on them. My goal is that the Bills can cement their defensive starters when they enter the draft.
Buffalo’s defense features some solid young starters, including linebackers Terrel Bernard and Matt Milano. The Bills also extended Ed Oliver prior to this season, but he is the lone interior defensive lineman under contract for 2024, which will need to be addressed. The secondary cornerback room is solid, with starters Rasul Douglas and Christian Benford locked in. The club will welcome Tre’Davious White back next season, while Kaiir Elam will compete now that he is totally healed. The safeties, like the defensive line, may be an issue that needs to be addressed.
Buffalo’s offense is in good form. The entire starting offensive line is under contract, with just reserve David Edwards being a free agent. Except for Gabe Davis, all of the skill position players, wide receivers, and tight ends are under contract. I believe the Bills will look to the draft and possibly other teams’ free agents for help at receiver. So, with that, let’s look at the five free agents the Bills need to re-sign.
