Birmingham City would like to attempt and sign Alex Pritchard during the January transfer window.
Tony Mowbray has intimated that Birmingham City are preparing to capitalise on Alex Pritchard’s contract issue with Sunderland.
The uncertainty surrounding Pritchard’s future on Wearside grew on Saturday, as the offensive midfielder declared himself unavailable for selection ahead of Stoke City’s visit to the Stadium of Light. Pritchard has refused a one-year extension and wishes to be able to take up a longer contract elsewhere for greater security.
There is interest from Turkey, but Sunderland insiders indicate they have not yet received a proposal and do not want to let him leave for free, especially to a Championship competitor. Mowbray is said to be eager for a reunion, and Saturday’s events did little to quell suspicion.
“Let Sunderland get on with their business and wait and see what happens in the next five days,” Mowbray stated in a statement.
“What I do know is that Alex Pritchard is a player with personality and character, excellent ball manipulation, and outstanding dead ball abilities. We shall wait and watch how things progress. He is not our player, and I suppose I shouldn’t be talking about him, but we’ll see how things go over the next four or five days.”
Mowbray has already started to restructure Birmingham City’s squad, signing Andre Dozzell on loan from QPR. The Blues are reportedly close to signing South Korean midfielder Paik Sueng-Ho, and Pritchard would add obvious class to their roster.
