BREAKING: Miami Dolphins Offensive Weapon Says Goodbye to Franchise; Wide Receiver Signals End with AFC East Club for 2023-24 Postseason
Without a formal announcement from the Miami Dolphins, it looks unlikely that any of their wide outs will return for the 2024 season. Braxton Berrios, an All-Pro returner and receiver, posted a long, passionate goodbye to Miami on his Instagram account. Berrios signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins last offseason.
Miami Dolphins WR Braxton Berrios: Says Goodbye to the Franchise
Berrios posted to Instagram late Thursday to bid goodbye to the Miami Dolphins franchise. “I hate to see this one go. This year was one for which I will be eternally grateful; I was able to return to my hometown and play for my childhood team.
Berrios excelled as a punt returner for the Miami Hurricanes throughout his college career. In 2017, he was the league leader in punt return yards per return. He also caught 100 passes for 1,175 yards and 14 touchdowns during his time with the Hurricanes.
Berrios went on to remark, “I’m grateful for all of my teammates with whom I shared the field, as well as everyone else in that building who made coming to work every day enjoyable. “Fins up.”
Berrios signed a one-year contract with the Dolphins in March, but according to the skill player’s post, he will not return next season. The Miami product began his career with the New England Patriots in 2018 as a sixth-round pick. He spent the next four seasons with the New York Jets, where he earned All-Pro honors in 2021 as a returner.
Miami Dolphins: Need to Replace Berrios Next Season
Berrios appeared in 16 games this season and caught 27 passes for 238 yards and one touchdown. He also returned 18 kickoffs for 441 yards and 23 punts for 235 yards. The Dolphins will most likely need to replace their third wide receiver and main returner next season. Cedrick Wilson Jr. completed 2023 with 58 more receiving yards than Berrios, while having five fewer catches. Wilson is under contract till the end of next year. He also returned four punts.
The Dolphins might assign Jaylen Waddle or Tyreek Hill to the return slot. However, they were purely receivers previous season. Waddle returned five punts for 35 yards in 2021. Meanwhile, Hill led the NFL in most punt return categories during the 2016 season, but has only returned two punts during his time with the Dolphins. Miami may replace Berrios’ productivity via the draft or free agency.
