Last Monday, the Philadelphia Eagles were humiliated 32-9 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, bringing an end to their season. Philadelphia limped into the playoffs after losing five of their last six regular-season games and failing to reach 20 points three times. However, organizations are still considering offensive coordinator Brian Johnson for their head coaching position. According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Atlanta Falcons interviewed Johnson for their frontman role.
The Falcons concluded the season with an average of 13.9 points per game, the 26th-best in the NFL. They fired bench boss Arthur Smith at the end of the season. They were slightly better on defense, allowing 21.9 per game. Desmond Ridder, a second-year quarterback, struggled, throwing 12 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
BRIAN JOHNSON, PHILADELPHIA EAGLES’ OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR: TOUGH SEASON WITH THE BIRDS
The Eagles scored 25.5 points per game under Brian Johnson, a three-point decrease from the previous year when Shane Steichen was in charge. Quarterback Jalen Hurts, who finished the year with 3,858 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions, also had a career-low average.
Johnson began his coaching career at his alma mater, Utah, as quarterback coach from 2010 to 2011. In 2021, the Utah Utes promoted him to offensive coordinator. He also called plays for the Houston Cougars and Florida Gators before entering the NFL in 2021.
Philadelphia Eagles’ Coaching Staff Questions Entering offseason
Philadelphia’s season finale has raised eyebrows across the league, casting doubt on the job security of head coach Nick Sirianni. However, Eagles players, especially defensive tackle Fletcher Cox, have supported Sirianni. The New York native is 34-17 as the team’s head coach, including two consecutive double-digit win seasons. In 2022, the Eagles made it to the Super Bowl but lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.
