Following their loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL Playoffs, the Green Bay Packers should now focus on areas for improvement. Interestingly, they already have a few choices to examine as they prepare for an intriguing free agency and summer.

Defense had been a major concern for the Packers during the 2023 season. According to FOX Sports, they were a below-average total defensive club, finishing 17th overall in the league. While they improved defensively in the postseason, there is no disputing that they must do so on a consistent basis to make life easier in the playoffs.

To be a perennial playoff club and possibly a Super Bowl contender, the Packers must have a steady defense that will not collapse on them.

Green Bay Packers can trade for Washington Commanders’ DT. Jonathan Allen

With being said, the Packers may trade for Washington Commanders defensive tackle Jonathan Allen this summer to fix their defensive issues. Of course, Allen isn’t the complete solution to their dilemma, but he’s an important piece of the puzzle–one who can help anchor the defense.

It’s also not impossible for the Packers to sign the Commanders’ Pro Bowler, especially since Washington is projected to be more active in the trade market this offseason. According to a potential deal presented by Alex Kay of Bleacher Report, Green Bay could exchange a 2024 second-round selection and a 2024 fourth-round pick to secure Allen’s services.

According to Kay, the Green Bay Packers will want to compete for Allen’s services. While the Packers have swiftly flourished in the post-Aaron Rodgers era, they might use more defensive aid. Despite a great regular season finish and Wild Card playoff triumph, the Packers still have a real need in the defensive trenches, allowing a poor 126.3 running yards per game and compiling a lackluster 45 sacks in 2023.

Allen would be an excellent solution to both problems and can play defensive end in Green Bay’s 3-4 front.

It would most likely cost the club the better of its two Round 2 draft picks this year, plus more, to complete a transaction, but giving up these picks would be well worth the value Allen will provide to this defense.

It remains to be known what the Green Bay Packers will do this offseason. However, following a fantastic playoff run, they should be an appealing destination for players looking to compete in the postseason and the Super Bowl.

With a rookie quarterback projected to develop with the team and a well-established system in place, Allen and many other players may be persuaded to go to Green Bay for a greater chance at winning the championship.
