Sunderland have reportedly made it ‘really clear’ that they want to recruit Manchester United winger Amad Diallo on loan this month.
The young 21-year-old had a fantastic season-long loan spell with the Black Cats last season, netting 13 goals in 37 Championship games.
Diallo was linked with a move away from Manchester United over the summer, but Erik ten Hag finally decided to keep him.
However, due to a knee injury, the teenager has only made one brief Premier League game this season, prompting questions about his future.
According to TEAMtalk, Leeds United and Middlesbrough are interested in signing Diallo on loan, but he has stated that he will only join Sunderland if he returns to the Championship.
Diallo told a Sunderland fan group on social media that the rumors tying him to a loan to Boro were false.
“If I had to come back on loan to the Championship, it would be at Sunderland and not anywhere else.”
According to a GOAL report, Manchester United have ‘complete trust in Diallo’s potential, and it was previously believed that they would ‘knock back any attempts for him in the winter window.’
However, it is alleged that their position on the winger ‘may be eased ahead of February 1st,’ with a number of suitors ‘ready to come in.’
This is wonderful news for Sunderland, who, as previously stated, want Diallo back at the Stadium of Light as they attempt to secure a playoff spot.
Black Cats manager Michael Beale has spoken openly about his adoration for Diallo.
“We’ve made it quite obvious to them that we’ll be in the race for Diallo, but Manchester United also values him.
“He might have an intriguing second half of the season in-house, but if he goes out on loan, I can guarantee you that they are fully aware that we would like him to return here.
“Putting finances aside – because that’s the major deal, isn’t it? – I know he enjoyed his time here, the fans adored him, and he was well-liked in the locker room.
“When I came here, it was something that if it could happen, it would happen but I think Man Utd realise they have a very good football player on their hands.”
Sunderland are currently in 10th place in the Championship table, just three points from the playoff positions.
