Grover Cleveland Alexander is elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1938. His 90 shutouts rank second all-time behind Walter Johnson, and his 16 shutouts in 1916 remain the major league record.

Willie O’Ree, a Canadian born in 1958, becomes the Boston Bruins’ first black player.

1972 — Jerry West of the Lakers scores a last-second 20-foot shot to lead the West side to a 112-110 NBA All-Star triumph over the East, earning him MVP honors.

1973: Orlando Cepeda becomes the first athlete signed exclusively to be a designated hitter. He joins the Boston Red Sox one week after the designated hitter rule is enacted.

1976 — Pittsburgh wins the Super Bowl for the second consecutive season. Terry Bradshaw’s 64-yard touchdown pass to Lynn Swann, combined with Glen Edwards’ interception on the game’s final play, gave the Steelers a 21-17 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Swann, with four receptions for 161 yards, is the game’s MVP.

Earl Boykins sets an NBA record by scoring 15 of Denver’s 21 points in overtime as the Nuggets defeated the Seattle SuperSonics 116-110. The 5-foot-5 guard, the league’s smallest player, beat Butch Carter of Indiana’s record of 14 overtime points set against Boston on March 20, 1984.

2011 — Kim Clijsters begins her Australian Open campaign with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over three-time Grand Slam finalist and former No. 1 player Dinara Safina. It’s the first time a woman who was formerly the world’s top-ranked player has lost by that margin.

2014 — The NBA fines Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban $100,000 for approaching officials and using offensive language against them after the Mavericks squandered a 17-point lead in the final 5 minutes of a 129-127 defeat to the Los Angeles Clippers on January 15.

2015 — Russell Wilson strikes Jermaine Kearse for a 35-yard touchdown 3:19 into overtime, lifting the Seattle Seahawks to an unlikely 28-22 victory over Green Bay in the NFC championship game. With 2:09 remaining, the Seahawks trail 16-7 after being outplayed for much of the game and forced to commit five turnovers.

Steelers WR Allen Robinson suffers a head injury.

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be approaching full strength for their playoff opener against the Buffalo Bills.

Pittsburgh — The Pittsburgh Steelers injury report featured just one blemish at the end of a clean week of practice, with the playoff opener against the Buffalo Bills coming up this weekend.

The Steelers listed three players on their final injury report. Three were complete participants, two did not practice, and just one was disqualified for Wild Card Weekend.

Offensive guard Issac Seumalo, who practiced fully the day prior, sat out of the final session of the week but did not have an injury designation for the game, thus is likely to play.

He’s been battling with a persistent shoulder ailment for a few weeks and has lost some practice time while the Steelers work to manage it.

Superstar outside linebacker T.J. Watt is out with a knee injury, as predicted.

The Steelers’ remaining three injured players, linebacker Elandon Roberts (pectoral), running back Najee Harris (knee), and safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, have all practiced extensively for the previous two days and are ready for kickoff versus the Bills.
