According to sources that spoke with Music City Miracles, the Tennessee Titans plan to ask Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan for an interview in order to fill the head coaching position. It is anticipated that the Titans would cast a wide net in their pursuit of Mike Vrabel’s replacement. As far as we know, Callahan is the first contender.
Since 2019, the 39-year-old Callahan has served as offensive coordinator for Zac Taylor during Taylor’s first year of employment. Taylor has done a fantastic job assisting No. 1 overall quarterback Joe Burrow in his development during that time. Callahan’s performance this season has been possibly his best since Burrow’s season-ending injury.
In Burrow’s stead, undrafted fourth-year quarterback Jake Browning outperformed everyone’s predictions. Browning completed 171 of 243 passing attempts (70.4%) for 1,936 yards, 12 touchdowns, and seven interceptions in nine appearances during the regular season. In each game, Browning averaged 215.1 throwing yards.
This season, the Bengals ranked 31st in running yards (89.8), 15th in passing yards (229.1), 16th in points scored (21.5), and 22nd in total yardage per game (318.9). Taking Burrow’s absence into account, those numbers range from mediocre to outstanding. Under Callahan, the Bengals have consistently featured a potent attack.
2010 saw Callahan start his coaching career with the Denver Broncos as an assistant. He remained in Denver in a variety of capacities until 2015, when he joined the Detroit Lions as Matt Stafford’s quarterbacks coach.
Before Taylor whisked him away in 2019, he later joined the then-Oakland Raiders in 2018 in the same capacity.
The Cleveland Browns’ head coach of the offensive line, Bill Callahan, is the father of Callahan.
