The Edmonton Elks acquire receiver Kurleigh Gitttens Jr. by trading defensive lineman Jake Ceresna to the Toronto Argonauts.

Yesterday, the Edmonton Elks and the Toronto Argonauts made a blockbuster transaction.

While Canadian receiver Kurleigh Gittens Jr. is heading west to join the Edmonton Elks, he will be leaving Edmonton behind to move east to Toronto, where he is a favorite defensive lineman. The rights to American running back Khalan Laborn are also exchanged between the two teams; in return, Edmonton gets a seventh-round pick in the 2024 CFL Draft, while Toronto obtains the rights to Laborn.

Jake Ceresna is already signed to a deal that pays $212,000 when the 2024 CFL season begins. In February 2025, he will be free to sign with any team.

One of the CFL’s greatest defensive linemen is acquired by the Toronto Argonauts. The product of New Fairfield, Connecticut made his CFL debut in 2017 as an Ottawa REDBLACKs player. But his time in the nation’s capital was brief, as in 2018 he was traded to the Edmonton Elks.

Kurleigh Gitttens Jr., a 2019 CFL Draft selection out of Sir Wilfred Laurier University, has totaled 167 receptions for 2,132 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns since joining the Boatmen.

Kurleigh Gitttens Jr. is also starting his second year of a three-year contract that he signed in 2023, with a 2024 CFL salary of $210,000. Kurleigh Gitttens Jr. will receive a roster bonus worth a total of $55,000 on February 1st, 2024.
