When the 7th-seeded Green Bay Packers hit the field against the 2nd-seeded Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, they made history on multiple occasions, whether it was a team record they tied or broke or an individual record that a player set. The lauded Cowboys defense, which had performed admirably for Dallas all season, appeared to have vanished.
The Packers are the only team in NFL history to advance to the Divisional Round of the playoffs despite being seeded seventh. The Packers stormed off to a 27-0 lead thanks to running back Aaron Jones, who scored two of his three touchdowns on the Packers’ opening two possessions, putting the Packers up 14-0.
Jordan Love, the Packers’ quarterback, also completed a touchdown pass to Dontayvion Wicks, increasing the score 20-0 after a missed extra point. On the following drive, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was intercepted and returned for a score by Packers safety Darnell Savage. The Cowboys would score just before halftime, bringing the score 27-7 in favor of the Packers.
After the break, the Packers came out and continued to pound the Cowboys. Aaron Jones scored his third running touchdown after a Dallas field goal. He finished the day with 118 yards on 21 carries and a 13-yard reception.
In terms of passing, Jordan Love went 16/21 for 272 yards and three touchdowns with a near-perfect passer rating of 157.2. Tight end Romeo Doubs led the way with six grabs for 151 yards and a touchdown. Dontayvion Wicks had two receptions for 25 yards and a touchdown, while Luke Musgrave had three for 52 yards. With only one catch each, receivers Bo Melton and Christian Watson were relatively quiet throughout the contest.
If the Green Bay Packers, led by Jordan Love in the playoffs, keep playing like this, they have a chance to win the Super Bowl.
With their victory over the Cowboys, the Packers put the league on notice. What is even more astonishing is the manner in which they won the game. The Packers scored 48 points in their first game with every single receiver healthy this season. However, they were still missing AJ Dillon for the game. When Aaron Jones needed a break, Patrick Taylor took over as the backup running back. It’s difficult to imagine the Packers going toe-to-toe with anyone in the National Football League if all of their parts are healthy.
Another topic worth discussing is a Jordan Love extension. He has demonstrated his worth to the Packers and their fans, and it is evident that they adore him. Nobody should be surprised if the Packers offer Jordan Love a new contract because he is the Packers’ quarterback of the future. In just one season as a starter for the Packers, he has gone from being a first-round pick that no Packers fan expected to succeed to a potential future Packers icon.
