Following their victory, the Green Bay Packers received a concerning update on the injuries of their top two players.

In possibly the most stunning game of Wild Card weekend, the Green Bay Packers destroyed the Dallas Cowboys. The Packers had a terrific offensive game, but they demolished Dallas thanks in large part to their incredible defensive effort.

Back corner star Jaire Alexander was involved in a strange accident during practice this week and was being checked for an ankle injury in the days leading up to the game. He was cleared to play before the game, but he re-injured his ankle and was out for the duration of the game.

Following the game, head coach Matt LaFleur provided an update that has Packers fans afraid that Alexander would be unable to play in their divisional playoff meeting against the San Francisco 49ers. Following the game, LaFleur stated:

“Alexander wouldn’t have been allowed to re-enter the contest if it wasn’t a blowout for much of the second half.”

Obviously, with the game not being close, Alexander would not return after injuring his ankle again, but LaFleur’s statements do not auger well for next week, as this injury is clearly not insignificant.

Alexander knows how crucial a role he will play this coming week so he most likely will suit up just like he did against Dallas. Jordan Love has been playing amazing football and is clearly the quarterback of the future for this Packers team. Alexander and the defense will have to do their part if they want to have a chance in beating the NFC 1 seed.

San Francisco, like Dallas, has outstanding receivers, and having Alexander available and ready to go makes a tremendous difference in trying to stop the high-flying San Fran offense. When Alexander went down, the Packers were up huge, and their defense was playing fantastically.

Alexander understands how important his job will be this week, so he will most likely suit up the same way he did against Dallas. Jordan Love has been playing fantastic football and is certainly the Packers’ quarterback of the future. Alexander and the defense will have to do their share if they want to overcome the NFC’s top seed.

We’ll have to keep an eye on Alexander’s progress all week to determine if the top cornerback will be able to participate in this crucial playoff game. For the time being, the Packers may revel in stunning the NFL world by defeating the conference’s second seed.
