Once the season is over, the Green Bay Packers may be in the market for a new defensive coordinator. Even with their three-game winning streak to conclude the year, Joe Barry has been on the hot seat for a while.
Many fans and commentators have speculated on one person as a possible candidate for the defensive coordinator position in Green Bay. That candidate, however, may never be able to interview in Green Bay.
The Green Bay Packers may never have the opportunity to interview a top defensive coordinator candidate.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports:
According to insiders, the Panthers have denied the Jaguars’ request to interview DC Ejiro Evero for the position of coordinator in Jacksonville.
Carolina intends to interview Evero for the role of head coach. Despite Carolina’s NFL-worst offense, Evero led the Panthers’ fourth-ranked total defense.
Evero has been connected to the Packers on multiple occasions.
LaFleur and Evero collaborated under Head Coach Sean McVay. LaFleur was the offensive coordinator in 2017, while Evero was the safeties coach.
If the Panthers opt to go in a different path with their head coaching search, Evero will almost certainly be at the top of the Packers’ list. Green Bay considered Evero for the defensive coordinator position three years ago before selecting Joe Barry.
LaFleur’s recent comments show that he has been monitoring Evero’s development since they opted to take a new path.
