Over the last few years, the Green Bay Packers have lost a lot of All-Pros. Obviously, Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers were the two most noteworthy names to leave the Packers in recent memory. Adams has proven that he is still an all-pro type player despite not having one of the league’s greatest quarterbacks.
Rodgers has yet to establish that he is still the MVP quarterback that Packers fans have grown accustomed to watching due to injury. However, one other All-Pro who the Packers let go has decided to hang up his cleats.
The 33rd Team’s Ari Meirov reported:
Due to heart difficulties that prompted him to miss the final 14 games of the season, Chargers All-Pro center Corey Linsley says he’s likely to retire from the NFL after 10 seasons.
One of the most talented players in his position.
Linsley missed 14 games this season after being placed on the non-football illness list. Linsley was diagnosed with a non-emergent heart condition prior to being placed on the list.
Linsley signed a five-year contract with the Chargers before of the 2021 season. He made the Pro Bowl that year and was awarded a second-team All-Pro.
He was a first-team All-Pro pick in his final season with the Packers, and he started all 144 regular season and playoff games during his ten years in the league.
Linsley was selected in the fifth round of the NFL Draft in 2014. In 2017, he agreed to a three-year, $25.5 million contract deal with the Packers. He was the starting center for the Packers during their three NFC championship seasons (2014, 2019, 2020).
Linsley was rated a top-10 center by Pro Football Focus from 2018 to 20. Linsley chose to leave the Packers rather than sign a second agreement in 2021 because centers are rarely franchise-tagged. Linsley had a wonderful career that didn’t finish the way he intended it to.
