The Green Bay Packers’ defense struggled against New York Giants third-string quarterback Tommy DeVito. While no game in the NFL is guaranteed, many expected the Packers to be in complete control all night based on their performance over the previous three weeks. That was certainly not the case. All afternoon, the defense allowed Tommy DiVito to move the ball up and down the field (particularly via quarterback runs).

Why Ejiro Evero is at the Top of the List to be Vikings Defensive Coordinator - Daily Norseman

The Giants were able to score 24 points as a result of their performance, including the game-winning drive that resulted in a field goal with no time remaining. With Joe Barry’s job on the line, these are the top five candidates Green Bay might pursue.

A strong candidate emerges to replace Green Bay Packers Defensive Coordinator Joe Barry.

Carolina Panthers’ Ejiro Evero

Evero led the Broncos to a top-10 rating in overall defense (320 yards per game, seventh) and third in net yards per passing attempt (5.6, tied with Kansas City) in 2022. He guided cornerback Patrick Surtain II to the Pro Bowl this season.

Evero spent five years with the Rams as a safeties and secondary coach before joining the Broncos. From 2017 to 2020, he was in charge of the safeties before becoming the defensive passing game coordinator and secondary coach for Los Angeles’ 2021 Super Bowl run. The Rams tied for third in interceptions (19) in 2021, with 10 individuals intercepting a ball.

Report: Minnesota Vikings request to interview Ejiro Evero for their defensive coordinator position - Mile High Report

Evero actually worked for the Packers as a defensive quality control coach in 2016. Evero worked for Dom Capers in Green Bay throughout his tenure there. Evero was a member of the coaching team that guided the Packers to a 10-6 record that season.

Evero was appointed as defensive coordinator by the Carolina Panthers on February 5, 2023, under the direction of head coach Frank Reich. However, considering the Panthers’ 1-12 start, many changes are likely inside the organization. Evero has been linked to the Packers numerous times in the past, and the Packers should make a statement on the defensive coaching side of the ball this offseason. That type of move would be appropriate for Evero.
