The Green Bay Packers are solely focused on defeating the Chicago Bears in a must-win game during Week 18 NFL action. However, it is never too early to start thinking about the offseason and how the team may develop even further.
The Packers have struggled to add quality in free agency in recent years. They have had numerous discussions but have been unable to reach an agreement. That could change now that the Packers have a new direction and more financial flexibility as a result of the Aaron Rodgers deal.
The safety position is a critical necessity coming into the summer. Green Bay has some quality at the position, but there is room for growth.
The Green Bay Packers have been linked to an intriguing safety in the 2024 NFL free agency period.
If the Packers decide to enter the NFL free agency market in search of a safety, one alternative has been proposed.
According to a recent Bleacher Report piece, Washington Commanders safety Kamren Curl is a possible fit for the Green Bay Packers. Curl isn’t a household name, but he could be a low-cost upgrade for the Packers.
“Throughout his career, the four-year pro has lined up in the box, deep, and over the slot like a Swiss army knife.” He’s also been prolific, with at least 80 total tackles each season and breaking triple digits for the first time in 2023—by Week 14.”
Curl had another strong season this year, recording 115 total tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and five passes defended.
The Packers have long struggled with secondary tackling. Curl is one of the most underappreciated tacklers at safety. That in itself would be a welcome change of pace for Green Bay.
To be sure, the Green Bay Packers could make a bigger move, such as a trade for Budda Baker. Curl, on the other hand, could make a lot of sense if they want a low-cost choice.
