The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the New York Giants on Monday, snapping a three-game losing streak.
However, there was still a lot of tension between the squad and the spectators at Lincoln Financial Field.
Now, it appears that several Eagles players are blaming their current troubles on those exact same supporters.
According to Marcus Hayes of the Philadelphia Inquirer, some Eagles players believe that the home crowd is partly to blame for offensive communication problems.
“Several Eagles offensive players have suggested in recent weeks that the crowd noise at Lincoln Financial Field has hampered the offense’s efficiency.” “They’re going public now,” Hayes writes. “Some people can’t understand Jalen Hurts’ cadence. Some can’t hear audibles, where every syllable counts…some can’t hear the play call in the huddle.
“The Eagles have had to use silent counts in their own stadium due to the noise.” According to one lineman, this was the case during the iconic ‘Run the ball!’ drive.”
Hayes claims that after Philadelphia’s overtime triumph over the Buffalo Bills on Nov. 26, Eagles center Jason Kelce told him, “it would be nice if you could hear yourself think out there.”
Kelce, however, is not alone.
“It kind of gets loud for the offense,” the great quarterback stated after the Giants victory. “It’s supposed to get loud for the defense.”
Jordan Mailata, the team’s left tackle, agreed.
“Without a doubt. “I’d love to hear the cadence,” Mailata said to Hayes. “People don’t realize the significance of playing at home.” We can maintain our cadence. “Perhaps draw them offside.”
The Philadelphia Eagles host the Arizona Cardinals in their final home game of the season on Sunday. A win would move the team one step closer to winning the NFC East. That would imply at least one more home playoff game.
But perhaps the Eagles’ home field advantage isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
