Harvey Barnes, Callum Wilson, Joe Willock, and Elliot Anderson have all been ruled out of Newcastle United’s derby against Sunderland on Saturday.
Newcastle United are concerned about Kieran Trippier’s fitness ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup third-round game against Sunderland, with many players already ruled out.
Trippier missed Monday’s 4-2 loss at Liverpool due to a groin injury, but he could play at the Stadium of Light. The 33-year-old is expected to be The Magpies’ only returning player this weekend, as head coach Eddie Howe has already ruled Callum Wilson out of the next two games against The Black Cats and Manchester City due to a calf injury.
Longer-term injuries to Joe Willock, Harvey Barnes, and Elliot Anderson, according to the Mail Online, have ‘little prospect’ of healing before the mid-January break. The trio has been sidelined for the bulk of the season owing to injuries, with Willock limited to just three starts due to hamstring and Achilles issues.
Anderson has been out since October with a stress fracture in his back, while Barnes will be out for four months due to an odd foot injury sustained during the 8-0 victory against Sheffield United in September. Barnes joined Newcastle for £38 million from Leicester City in the summer, but has only made two starts.
The 26-year-old scored and assisted on his debut against Aston Villa in August, but he has had a rough time at the club since. The club chose against surgery for the winger soon after his injury, but Howe has since warned that surgery may be necessary if the player suffers any additional setbacks.
An procedure at this point would jeopardize Barnes’ season. In addition to the aforementioned individuals, Newcastle will be without five more players from Saturday’s derby. Newcastle’s current injury/unavailable list, as well as estimated comeback dates…
