The Philadelphia Eagles have received devastating news ahead of their Week 18 game against the New York Giants.

The Philadelphia Eagles have recently struggled. The team lost 1-4 in December and dropped to second place in their division. The Dallas Cowboys will win the division if they defeat the Washington Commanders on Sunday.

Nonetheless, the Eagles have an 11-5 record and will play in the postseason. Going into the playoffs, you want to have as much momentum as possible, which is why the Eagles’ regular-season finale versus the Giants can be crucial. However, the Eagles had some bad news to share with their fans ahead of that game.

The Philadelphia Eagles make a difficult announcement ahead of their Week 18 game against the New York Giants.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the third-year wideout “suffered a mild ankle sprain” in the team’s devastating loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Smith’s injury isn’t “considered serious,” according to Fowler, but his availability for Week 18 is obviously in doubt.

When Smith left Lincoln Financial Field on crutches and wearing a walking boot on his right leg, Eagles fans were understandably concerned. Fortunately, Alabama’s product appears to be able to play in the first round of the playoffs.

What effect would Smith’s absence have on the Eagles in Week 18?

Following their loss to the Cardinals, the Eagles are unlikely to win the NFC East – the Cowboys must beat the Commanders next week to clinch the division – and may have to settle for the No. 5 spot. The Eagles will not have a first-round bye and will not have home-field advantage.

If Dallas loses to Washington, the Eagles’ game against New York becomes huge.

Smith, one of the team’s most dynamic playmakers, had three receptions for 30 yards in the defeat. Smith has 81 catches for 1,066 yards and seven touchdowns this season.

Smith has not missed a game since the Eagles selected him in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. If Smith is out for an extended period of time, the Eagles will have to replace his ability to make plays with A.J. Brown.
