BREAKING: Detroit Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell Discusses Last Saturday’s Surprising Loss; ‘I Have Controlled Fury and I’m Ready to Go!’ – Week 18
The aftermath from the NFL’s most recent gaffe, a blown call in the Detroit Lions’ last-second defeat to the Dallas Cowboys, is still ongoing, with head coach Dan Campbell discussing it again on Monday. In Saturday’s epic 20-19 loss, Campbell and the Lions converted on the would-be game-winning two-point conversion, but the play was called back due to a flag. The officials deemed offensive tackle Taylor Decker, who made the game-winning catch, to be an illegal receiver. Decker, on the other hand, reported eligible to head referee Brad Allen, and the conversion should have counted. The Lions tried again but were unsuccessful.
On Monday, Head Coach Dan Campbell addressed the media.
When asked about his thoughts following Saturday’s loss, Detroit Lions bench boss Dan Campbell remarked, “I’ve got controlled fury, and I’m ready to go.” I am completely prepared to depart. We have a mission. We’re not going to bemoan ourselves. We needed to make plays, but we didn’t. It’s a close game with a good opponent and a playoff atmosphere, and you have to make that one additional play that we didn’t.”
On Saturday night, social media erupted after NFL head official Brad Allen ruled offensive tackle Taylor Decker ineligible after receiving a possible game-winning two-point convert late in the fourth quarter. Instead of tying the game with an extra-point attempt, Detroit went for a two-point try. The Lions threw to an open Decker, the final guy on the line of scrimmage on the left side, using an unbalanced formation. The tape showed Decker reporting to the head referee, but the play was called back. Outrage erupted on social media, with followers demanding that Allen face consequences. According to insiders, the NFL has intervened and suspended Allen and his team for the 2023 playoffs.
“We will use this as fuel,” Campbell continued. Right now, I’m running on full octane. “I awoke, I’m ready, and we’re proceeding.”
Detroit Lions Seeding Prospects
The Lions can no longer claim the top seed in the NFC after their devastating and contentious loss on Saturday. Instead, Detroit will compete for the conference’s second or third seed. With a win over the Minnesota Vikings, a Cowboys defeat to the Washington Commanders, and an Eagles loss to the New York Giants, Dan Campbell’s team may claim the second-best seed. Any other combination results in the Lions being seeded third. Regardless, Detroit will host a Wild Card Round playoff game, but avoiding an away playoff meeting seems unlikely.
