The Green Bay Packers’ troubled relationship with Jaire Alexander could result in a divorce via trade before a pivotal date in March.
The Packers’ relationship with two-time Pro Bowler Jaire Alexander has become tense as the team strives to finish the season with a record above.500. In Week 16, the Charlotte native surprisingly became one of the team captains and took part in the coin flip against the Carolina Panthers.
The odd incident has resulted in a one-game suspension for the league’s highest-paid cornerback in Week 17. This has apparently increased the significance of a critical choice that Green Bay must make early in 2024.
Alexander is due a $8 million roster bonus on March 20. Following the strange occurrence in Week 16 and Alexander’s injury history, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter stated on Saturday that the team will seriously consider whether he fits into their long-term plans as the bonus date approaches.
Jaire Alexander of the Green Bay Packers could be seriously considered for trade before March 20.
“His $8 million bonus now is expected to become the trigger point that likely will lead the Packers into a decision on whether to they want to keep Alexander or move on from him,” Schefter stated in an email. “Should they keep him, the Packers would simply pick up the option bonus, but Green Bay could also look into a trade.”
Alexander, who was named to the Pro Bowl for the second time in 2022, has only participated in six games this season due to a shoulder ailment. The 18th overall choice in the 2018 NFL Draft will play in fewer than 10 games for the second time in the last three seasons.
