Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy discusses the supposed ‘disappointed look’ for the Wolverines as Alabama moved up to No. 4 in the College Football Playoff rankings.

Three weeks ago, the world seemed to come to a halt at the University of Michigan.

It defeated Iowa in the Big Ten Championship Game, securing the #1 seed in the College Football Playoff. Jim Harbaugh, his staff, and Michigan student-athletes watched the big screen on the Sunday following conference championship week to see who Michigan will meet in the CFP Semifinal battle at the Rose Bowl.

When the scripted A showed on ESPN as the No. 4 seed on Selection Sunday, the room fell silent. Fear or disappointment, according to the story, had entered Michigan’s heart.

The Wolverines preferred Florida State over Alabama.

Both teams have since practiced at their respective universities before going to California.

Everyone has had a good time, but Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy had an opportunity to respond to the reaction from Sunday, Dec. 3. He told reporters on Friday that Michigan was excited to play Alabama.

“It is not a joke at all,” McCarthy said of seeing a Nick Saban-coached Alabama squad in the playoffs.

“They’ve been here before and have had success here.” When that was revealed, we were all surprised that the committee had kept Florida State out. You could see where they were coming from, especially with how Alabama was playing near the end of the season, beating Georgia, and just being the team they are… it makes sense, and viewing film, you can see why they are in the playoff. They make an excellent team. Everything about them is firing on all cylinders, offensively, defense, and special teams.”

Alabama, according to McCarthy, is a ‘wonderful matchup’ and a ‘tough test’ for Michigan.

Monday can’t come soon enough since Rose Bowl Stadium will be treated to a classic to kick off 2024.
