This past offseason, the Green Bay Packers made a number of contentious moves. In addition to trading Aaron Rodgers for Jordan Love, the Packers allowed numerous popular players to leave via free agency. While the losses of several of these players were welcomed with understanding (and in some cases, celebration), the choice to choose Anders Carlson and not re-sign Mason Crosby remains unpopular with many Packers fans.

For the record, it shouldn’t. Crosby has an 81.4% lifetime field goal percentage. Carlson has a field goal percentage of 82.8% this season. True, the Packers should not have selected Carlson in the 2023 NFL Draft; instead, they might have signed him as an undrafted free agent. That isn’t to say they have the wrong kicker on their squad right now.

While the Packers were willing to let Crosby go, he was not ready to leave football. Crosby has been staying in shape and looking for another job in the NFL since the offseason began. Unfortunately, none arrived for a long time, despite the fact that a solid veteran kicker was desperately needed.

Crosby was just signed by the Los Angeles Rams, however he did not play for them before being released. He was signed by the New York Giants a few days ago and was thrust into game action on Monday night.

His stint with the Giants dropped him from a select group of former Packers players, which currently has only one member.

Donald Driver is now the only Green Bay Packers player in the exclusive club, with Mason Crosby kicking for the New York Giants.

Mason Crosby Appearing For New York Giants Leaves 1 Player Standing In Impressive Historical Club - Jeremy News
Only four players have appeared in more than 200 games for the Green Bay Packers in the team’s extended 100-year history:

  1. Mason Crosby- 258
  2. Brett Favre- 255
  3. Aaron Rodgers- 230
  4. Donald Driver- 205

Legends such as Bart Starr and Ray Nitschke came close, appearing in 196 and 190 games, respectively, but only those four reached 200.

And now, of those four, Driver is the only one to have played in 200 or more games with the Packers, with no other NFL team:

Driver, of course, is the Packers’ all-time receiving yardage leader. Crosby, as previously stated, is the team’s all-time leading scorer, games played leader, and holds the record for most consecutive games played.

Driver was unaware of his situation:

Drivers are always humble. That is one of the main reasons he is still revered by Packers fans.
