Over the previous several seasons, the Green Bay Packers have decided to part ways with a number of veterans who have had a significant impact on the team. This was clear more than ever this offseason, when the organization decided to part ways with several veterans (by trade or free agency). In fact, the Packers became one of the NFL’s youngest teams.

According to a statement issued this week, one former Green Bay Packers player may retire after this season.

Former Green Bay Packers wide receiver announces he will retire after the 2023 season.

Randall Cobb, the wide receiver for the New York Jets, will turn 34 next summer and may be a former player by the time he celebrates.

“The big thing will be my family and my situation with my kids,” Cobb stated about his future during an interview with Newsday’s Tom Rock. “After this season, I’ll look back and go over everything.” I’ll accept it for what it is and make a decision when I’m ready.”

Cobb and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers were colleagues from 2011 to the 2018 season, then again in 2021 and 2022 when the Packers traded Rodgers to the Jets this spring. Cobb eventually followed Rodgers to New York, but he was virtually forgotten after the 40-year-old signal-caller tore his Achilles four snaps into the regular-season opener.

Cobb has played in only 37% of the Jets’ offensive snaps this season, according to Rock. Cobb has four catches for 35 yards and a touchdown while playing with quarterbacks other than Rodgers.

Cobb created some unforgettable memories in Green Bay.

Rodgers has relied on the 5-foot-10 pass-catcher for many years. Cobb caught 532 catches for 6,316 yards and 47 touchdowns during his time in Green Bay. For the Packers, 317 of his catches resulted in first downs.

Cobb appeared in 13 games and made three starts in 2022’s 17-game regular season schedule. He had 417 receiving yards and one touchdown on 50 targets. Nineteen of his 34 catches resulted in a first down.

If this was Cobb’s final season in the league, he will be remembered for the amazing moments he provided Packers fans.
