In 11 games this season, Dallas’ starting left tackle has not allowed a sack.
Opposing defenses sack Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott about twice per game, but things might be different against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. The Dallas Morning News’ Michael Gehlken announced Saturday afternoon that left tackle Tyron Smith will miss the game due to a back issue.
Smith, 33, anchors Dallas’ offensive line and has not been sacked in 717 snaps this season. His 89.9 pass-blocking grade is second among all starting tackles, according to PFF.
The Cowboys turn to Chuma Edoga, a third-round pick of the New York Jets in 2019. Former USC offensive lineman began the first two games of the season at left guard before shifting to tackle. This season, Edoga, 26, allowed sacks in two of his three starts as left tackle.
Miami’s defense ranks second in the league with an average of 3.4 sacks per game and has a favorable matchup against a Dallas offense that is riddled with questions up front. In addition to Smith, starting right guard Zach Martin is questionable after missing practice on Thursday and Friday due to a thigh issue.
