Maalik Murphy, a former Texas quarterback, has verbally committed to Duke. A formal announcement will be made soon. With three years remaining, he’ll be eligible immediately, providing first-year coach Manny Diaz with a significant building stone to begin his stint.”

Murphy made two starts for Texas this season when Ewers was out with an injury. He passed for 477 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions while leading the team to two wins. Without Murphy’s performance, the Longhorns would not be in the College Football Playoff. This is a critical item for new head coach Manny Diaz’s team.

Duke has evolved into more than just a basketball school. They’ve made some noise in the ACC under head coach Mike Elko. They will now be hoping for similar success under Diaz. The schedule for 2024 is currently favorable to the Blue Devils. Their first ACC game is against Florida State, followed by a game against North Carolina. However, Miami is the only frightening team remaining on the schedule. With the quarterback position secure, the program’s future looks considerably brighter.

It’s unfortunate that Murphy will miss the College Football Playoff with the Longhorns, but that’s how the college football schedule works. He will now turn his focus elsewhere, hoping to lead the Blue Devils to the top of the ACC.
