Leeds United have been linked with a deal to bring Kalvin Phillips back to the club following a miserable spell at Manchester City, where success for the club hasn’t resulted in any opportunities for him to improve.
In the summer of 2022, Leeds lost its two best players, Raphinha to Barcelona and Kalvin Phillips to Manchester City.
Both merited moves to Europe’s best, but neither has gone on to earn their places in starting lineups, with Phillips struggling the most at the Etihad.
Recently, Kalvin Phillips proposed a return to Leeds.
Recently, talkSPORT columnist Andy Goldstein (13/12) debated where Phillips should move, as it is evident that Pep Guardiola will not get the most of him.
As Goldstein put it, relocating to Leeds was recommended.
“I’m sure Leeds would want him back, but I doubt he’d come down.”
“Although, maybe he would wait a season for Leeds to come back up.”
Phillips joined City from Leeds for £45 million roughly 18 months ago, and he has since collected four medals for his efforts in helping City win the treble last season and the UEFA Super Cup this season.
However, this flimsy link will be limited to experts and fans debating the possibility, as Fabrizio Romano indicates his most likely destination is Juventus.
The Serie A club has already begun talks with the 28-year-old about a possible loan with the option to make it permanent, while City is pushing to make it mandatory:
With talks ongoing, Phillips’ days at the Etihad giants could be over, and he could find a way back to his best in Italy, where a number of English players, including Chris Smalling, Fikayo Tomori, and possible Juve colleague Samuel Iling-Junior, have found a home.
A transfer of this magnitude would also put an end to the possibility of Phillips returning to LS11 anytime soon.
