The Green Bay Packers have activated rookie tight end Luke Musgrave from the injured reserve list. Musgrave has a 21-day window to practice before being promoted to the active roster. If he is not activated within that time window, he will miss the rest of the 2023 season.
In Week 11, the Green Bay Packers rookie suffered a kidney injury.
Luke Musgrave had a lacerated kidney in Week 11 but played through it. He was taken to a local hospital after the game and remained there until Tuesday, when he was released and placed on injured reserve.
Matt LaFleur described how he learned of Musgrave’s injury:
“He didn’t say anything the entire game, but something happened and he called Flea (head athletic trainer Bryan Engel).” He was in the hospital. It’s had a huge impact. “This kid is tough as nails.”
The rookie tight end had a successful debut season.
Musgrave took over as starting at the start of the season and has performed admirably. He’s caught 33 passes on 45 attempts for 341 yards and one touchdown. He ranks sixth in targets, third in receptions, and fifth in receiving yards.
Who took Musgrave’s place?
In Musgrave’s absence, Tucker Kraft has taken over as the starting tight end. Kraft has done an excellent job in the last stretch. In the last four games, he had 13 receptions on 18 targets for 173 yards and two receiving touchdowns, while he has 18 receptions on 25 targets for 216 yards and two receiving touchdowns this season.
Musgrave’s status for Week 16 injury.
Musgrave will be unavailable against the Carolina Panthers in Week 16 since he was designated for return during the week. LaFleur was cautiously confident that he would play this season:
“Obviously, I’d love to see him out there [in a game] and am cautiously optimistic that it will happen at some point.” I’m just not sure when that will be.”
Musgrave did not participate in tight end exercises on Thursday, but he did run and catch passes off to the side.
Green Bay is in the hunt for a playoff position.
With a 6-8 record, the Green Bay Packers sit third in the NFC North and 11th in the NFC Playoff Picture. Here’s how they can qualify for the playoffs.
They play the Carolina Panthers at home in Week 16, Minnesota on the road in Week 17, and the Chicago Bears at home in the season finale.
Will Green Bay win the remaining games, while the Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, and Minnesota Vikings each lose one or more?
