The Texas Longhorns will face the Washington Huskies in the College Football Playoff semifinals on January 1. As we count down the days, here’s a look back at the top 20 moments.
Quinn Ewers’ 29-yard touchdown run against Baylor fuels Texas’ offense.
The Longhorns have struggled on the road against Baylor in the past, and with a 7-3 lead after the first quarter, it appeared that Texas would take the game to the wire.
In the second quarter, Quinn Ewers turned the tide by eluding Baylor pressure on third down and scrambling toward the sideline. Ewers showed off his speed, racing by a Bears defender on the outside and taking advantage of a downfield block by tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders to score 29 yards.
The touchdown kicked off the remainder of the Texas offense, which scored two more unanswered touchdowns on its next two drives in the second quarter, propelling the Longhorns to a 38-6 win against their in-state rivals.
It was a strong start for Texas in its first Big 12 game of the season, and the Longhorns demonstrated just how deep their offense can be.
On the day, Ewers found eight different receivers, with six receiving multiple passes. The Longhorns had four players rush for five yards or more, and they even got to demonstrate some versatility with wide receiver Xavier Worthy tossing a 35-yard pass to Sanders.
“We want to really be versatile on offense, whether it’s the style of runs, the personnel groupings, the formations, the motions, the shifts,” Sarkisian told reporters after the game. “We don’t enter games with simplistic game plans and formations. We tax our guys because we know what our opponents would tax.”
The Longhorns boast one of the deepest rosters in the country, with practically any offensive player capable of breaking out at any time. When it comes to winning a CFP semifinal, it may be crucial for Texas.
