The Philadelphia Eagles are still reeling from Monday Night Football’s 20-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. However, some reporters are still trying to figure out what went wrong in their latest loss, the third in a row versus NFC teams. When asked about his team’s late-game interception in Week 15, head coach Nick Sirianni gave a lengthy response.
Nick Sirianni: Defends QB Jalen Hurts’ interception in the fourth quarter.
“You can get a pass interference there,” head coach Nick Sirianni said of quarterback Jalen Hurts’ choice to take a shot downfield late in Monday’s loss. It was what it was on that particular play, but if you get a pass interference penalty there and a team gives you a one-on-one shot, it’s a different story. You get a pass interference and are in position to kick the ball.”
Hurts’ interception came with less than 30 seconds remaining in regulation, and the Eagles were set up on their 45-yard line with two timeouts. The Eagles, particularly Jalen Hurts, were chastised for the choice, which came as his team was closing in on kicker Jake Elliot. A field goal would have sent the Eagles and Seahawks into overtime, unless either team performed a miracle.
“We’ve done it other times in two-minute drills, and it’s worked, but it didn’t work that time, so we understand the criticism,” Sirianni continued, “but not only can you get a pass interference, but A.J. (Brown) has a tremendous ability to come down with the football in one-on-one situations… But we’re comfortable with what was called and what we did in that scenario, and we’ll be better the next time.”
Seahawks security The long ball intended for star wideout A.J. Brown was intercepted by Julian Love. Love was stationed deep on the right side of the field by Seattle, making the interception relatively simple for the Notre Dame player.
The Philadelphia Eagles are on a three-game losing streak.
The Philadelphia Eagles have now lost three straight games, the most recent being a loss to the Seattle Seahawks last Monday. Jalen Hurts has struggled immensely during the team’s three-game losing streak, throwing just one touchdown to two interceptions. The Eagles have dropped to second place in the NFC East, trailing rival Dallas by a tiebreaker. Furthermore, they have lost all momentum in their quest for a bye week in the playoffs, which is awarded to the top club in each conference. However, Philadelphia closes the season with one of the easiest schedules in sports, visiting the three-win Arizona Cardinals on New Year’s Eve and facing the lowly New York Giants twice.
