Both the Green Bay Packers and the Buffalo Bills are in intriguing situations at this stage in the season. The Packers (6-8) have enjoyed enough success this season to believe they can go on a run to finish the season and have a strong chance of making the playoffs. At the same time, losing and finishing 6-11 isn’t out of the question.

The Bills have had an up and down season, but they are coming off a 32-6 win over the New York Jets and are in the thick of the AFC playoff battle. According to one source, the Bills could pursue a current Packer wide receiver for their prospective playoff run.

Bo Melton

In the midst of a potential playoff push, the Buffalo Bills are expected to target Green Bay Packers wide receiver Bo Melton.

The NFL Staff at Bleacher Report emphasized how this trade would benefit Buffalo:

The Bills may not require a receiver in the closing stretch of 2023, but they will need to figure out receiver room in 2024. With Gabriel Davis ready to enter free agency and the Bills searching for additional productivity at wide receiver, they could use another young receiver to evaluate before the offseason.

Bo Melton is 5’11” and 189 pounds, but he runs a 4.34 40-yard dash and has some power with the ball in his hands. Taking him off the Packers’ practice squad would provide the Bills with a high-potential 24-year-old.

What Plans Do The Packers Have For Melton?

Melton rejoined Green Bay’s practice squad on Monday.

Melton played both offense and special teams in Sunday’s loss to Tampa Bay, catching one of his two targets for seven yards. Due to hamstring and toe injuries to Christian Watson and Jayden Reed, the 24-year-old might return to the active roster next week.

Melton was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the seventh round (229th overall) of the 2022 NFL Draft. On August 30, 2022, he was waived, and on August 31, 2022, he was signed to the practice squad. Injuries aside, the Packers have a bevy of young wide outs at their disposal. It’s not surprising that the organization would release a player like Melton; yet, after receiving his first career reception last week, the team may be inclined to offer him additional playing time.
