Jalen Hurts, the Philadelphia Eagles’ standout quarterback, is clearly disturbed by the team’s current situation. Philadelphia’s leader had some harsh words for his teammates after losing three straight games in which the usually explosive Eagles attack was kept to under 20 points.
“I’ve been talking about execution all year, being on the same page, getting everyone on the same page,” Hurts said after the Eagles’ 20-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. “We didn’t follow through. I don’t believe we’re dedicated enough. We’re all dedicated enough. It only has to be turned around. You know, it’s a task that we must accept. Just keep pushing through.”
Hurts refused to expound on what he meant by his “commitment” comment. Nonetheless, Hurts made it a point to name himself among those to blame after a close loss to the Seahawks.

“We have to get ourselves out of this… “We need to make an internal shift in how we approach things,” Hurts stated. “How we arrive at work every day.” It all starts with how committed we are to doing what we’re doing.
“It all begins with me, the quarterback.” It’s a challenge I’m up for. Even when times are difficult, I see light at the end of the tunnel. It’s simply a matter of believing.”
Hurts was said to suffer flu-like symptoms before to the game, which hampered his performance. Hurts was initially doubtful to play on Saturday after failing to participate in practice.
Still, the 25-year-old gave it his all against Seattle, but it was evident he lacked that additional spark. Hurts completed 17 of 31 passes for 143 yards with two interceptions in the fourth quarter.
“It’s just a matter of being on the same page,” the Eagles quarterback stated. “It takes everyone to be all in, in every way.” And it all begins with me. There are numerous opportunities available. In the end, there simply isn’t another option. The level of confidence we have in one another, the amount we communicate as gamers… We must improve, and I must improve.
“Reduce the number of mistakes, penalties, and mental errors.” Play team football, and it all starts with me. We’ve lost games because I’m not up to par. That will change everything, and I am ready for it.”
The Eagles were outplayed on both ends of the field by the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys in two of their last three games. The normally potent offense was restricted to 32 total points against the 49ers and Cowboys, while the defense surrendered 75 total points.
This recent defeat has fallen the former NFC East leaders to a tie with the Cowboys and has sent the 49ers to the top of the conference standings. With so little time left in the season and the Eagles’ Super Bowl hopes, it remains to be seen how Hurts’ comments will effect the squad.
