When it comes to the NFC playoff picture, the Green Bay Packers are now on the outside looking in. Two consecutive losses have put the Packers’ postseason hopes on life support. While winning out (against the Panthers, Vikings, and Bears) almost secures a postseason position, the team’s performance in the final two games gives little hope that this will happen.

However, one former Packers quarterback has found himself in a position where he may not only make the playoffs, but perhaps win his division.

Jets adding ex-Packers QB Tim Boyle amid Aaron Rodgers saga

Jordan Sigler of Wisconsin Sports Heroics broke the news to us first:

On Tuesday, a former Green Bay Packers quarterback signed with an AFC contender. When Tim Boyle signed with the New York Jets this offseason, he felt he was joining an AFC playoff contender.

Instead, Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon, and the Jets offense has been in free fall ever since. Boyle was dismissed by the Jets in early December after failing to perform adequately in his two starts this season (360 yards, one touchdown, and four interceptions). But he’ll get another chance to join a playoff team.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, the Houston Texans signed Boyle to the practice squad after he worked out with the team on Tuesday.

The former Packers quarterback will join an 8-6 Texans club that is tied for first place in the AFC South with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Indianapolis Colts.

Fans of the Green Bay Packers react to Boyle joining a playoff contender.
