Christian Watson of the Green Bay Packers missed practice again on Wednesday due to a hamstring ailment. He has missed the last two games due to a hamstring injury and has missed five games this season in total. Watson has only caught 28 catches for 422 yards and five touchdowns this season. He has a 15.1 yard per catch average.

Quarterback Jordan Love has also targeted Christian Watson 53 times. Watson has had a challenging second season in the NFL. There is a lot of youthful talent in the wide receiver corps, which has put Christian a little behind the eight ball this season.

With Watson out on Wednesday, it doesn’t appear that he’ll be able to play on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers (2-12) on the road. This would be an ideal game for him to get back on track, but hamstring issues have been difficult for him all season.

All of the other wide receivers on the roster have been reasonably healthy this season, and Jayden Reed was the second wide receiver to miss practice on Wednesday. Reed was also listed as injured last week but participated, but Watson is the greater issue for the Green Bay Packers.

Dontayvion Wicks has taken up the role of Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson for the time being.

Watson is likely to miss practice on Thursday due to a hamstring strain at this point. That would mean he would miss the game against the Carolina Panthers. Dontayvion Wicks has been filling in for him for the last two weeks.

Wicks had five receptions for 97 yards last week. In that game, he averaged 19.4 yards per grab and was targeted six times by quarterback Jordan Love. When Christian Watson has been out with an injury, Dontayvion Wicks has stepped up.

Wicks needs to see the field more than Watson at this stage. Christian Watson should not be given his spot back when he returns. He must reclaim his position. Dontayvion Wicks, along with Jayden Reed and Romeo Doubs, has earned his spot as a top-three receiver on the team for the rest of the season. This offseason, there will be significant concerns over Watson’s future on the roster if he is unable to play for the remainder of the season due to hamstring injuries.
