As West Ham prepares to say farewell to Mohammed Kudus for the Africa Cup of Nations, David Moyes must find a remedy quickly.
Following West Ham’s match against Brighton and Hove Albion on 2 January, the Ghana international will rejoin his country.
If United defeats Liverpool this week, Kudus might miss up to seven first-team games, including both EFL Cup semi-finals.
As Malik Ouzia stated in a story for The Standard on December 18th, it is a “significant problem” that David Moyes must now address.
Using Jarrod Bowen on the right, where he is most comfortable, and Lucas Paqueta on the left looks like a logical pick.
Moyes, on the other hand, must choose a center-forward. Even if Michail Antonio returns from injury, it does not appear to be a prudent decision.
Danny Ings is not fancied by the Scotsman, meanwhile, and Divin Mubama is untested. On the face of it, the latter seems the best option.
Moyes has only a few weeks to make a decision, since it will determine his lineups for the better part of a month.
Kudus’ nine goals will be difficult to replace, but the Irons still have some extremely quality attacking players on their roster.
If Moyes gets it wrong, the Irons’ season might collapse in front of them while Kudus is 5,000 miles away.
This was a challenge United knew they’d face when they signed Kudus, and it’s one they’ll have to deal with.
