Matt LaFleur on Baker Mayfield’s Game-Changing Performance Against the Green Bay Packers: ‘He Shredded Us’

The Green Bay Packers’ postseason ambitions were dealt a crushing blow on Sunday when they were defeated 34-20 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Packers may thank Baker Mayfield for that, as the Buccaneers quarterback delivered a performance to remember, setting a never-before-seen record in Lambeau Field.

Baker Mayfield annihilated the Green Bay Packers.

Mayfield became the only opposing quarterback to record a perfect passer rating in Lambeau Field after completing 22-of-28 throws for 381 yards, four touchdowns, and zero turnovers. Only Aaron Rodgers has ever accomplished a similar feat in Lambeau Field, which speaks volumes about Mayfield’s extraordinary performance.

The Buccaneers quarterback was so brilliant that even Packers head coach Mike LaFleur couldn’t stop himself from praising him:

“Baker went out and shredded us,” LaFleur remarked, according to team website Mike Spofford. “It’s disappointing, obviously, because we sacked him five times and ultimately that still wasn’t enough.”

As LaFleur stated, the Packers did everything they could to stop Mayfield, but it was insufficient.

Green Bay is now 6-8, but they are still only one game off of the bottom two NFC wild-card berths. However, five other teams are vying for the two remaining berths, so the Packers will have their work cut out for them.

Regardless, LaFleur is upbeat about his team’s chances:

“All I know is that we have three weeks left.” “We have three games left, and every game is a playoff game,” LaFleur said. “Who knows what will occur? But we can’t give it all back at once; you have to work for it every day. You have to get back to practice and just give it your all from here on out.”

It all starts on Christmas Eve with a game versus the Carolina Panthers in Week 16. It goes without saying that the Packers will need to win that game.
