Following Sunday’s humiliating loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Green Bay Packers may choose a new defensive coordinator sooner rather than later. According to CBS Sports, Baker Mayfield became the first visiting quarterback in history to have a perfect Passer Rating (158.3) at Lambeau Field.

He completed 22 of 28 throws for 381 yards and four touchdowns while throwing no interceptions. Mayfield had one of his better games of the season. Fans have been screaming for Joe Barry’s dismissal from the team for weeks, but it has now reached a boiling point. As it happens, one former Packers player has emerged as a possible substitute.

Former Green Bay Packers star cornerback Al Harris has been identified as a possible replacement for Defensive Coordinator.

Former Packers cornerback Al Harris, according to Ezoic Locked on Podcast host Peter Bukowski, could be the new defensive coordinator in Green Bay.

I’m not usually one to desire for reunions to be excellent just because they’re reunions, but Al Harris as the next DC in Green Bay would be fine with me.

You could tell he’d make an excellent coach even as a player.

There is also a mix of defensive backgrounds.

During his 14-year NFL career, Al Harris was a fantastic cornerback. He found himself at home with the Green Bay Packers after brief spells with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Philadelphia Eagles. He played with the Packers for seven seasons and was chosen to the All-Pro team in 2007. That year, he was also named to the Pro Bowl.

Harris spent a year as a coaching intern with the Miami Dolphins after retiring from the game in 2012. He worked as a secondary/defensive assistant for the Kansas City Chiefs from 2013 to 2018.

Harris re-joined head coach Mike McCarthy (with whom he spent five seasons in Green Bay) as the defensive backs coach in 2020.

Harris played in 194 games, starting 128 of them, and retired with 140 pass breakups, 21 interceptions, and three defensive touchdowns, according to Pro Football Reference.
